Alzheimer’s support – Whitchurch Hill

My father (88yrs) has Alzheimer’s and has been unwell for the last five years. My mother (86yrs) is finding caring for him extremely difficult and it is having a detrimental effect on her health. They were both in need of help.  Finding the right carer for my father who is a proud independent man was very important and not as easily done as one might think.

I was fortunate enough to find Mel who is a caring, empathetic and has a pleasant relaxed humility about her. This was ideal for my father and worked extremely well because her disarming tactics soon broke any barriers. She had no problems connecting with him and providing personal care like washing, showering, shaving and dressing. She is also keen to help out with other tasks like shopping, taking items to the cleaners and providing transportation to the Day Centre and more. All of which helps to make life a lot simpler.

Bearing in mind the current difficulties of finding care and the right person to provide it, against the back drop of local authority budget cuts, I consider we were lucky to find Mel. I thank her for all she does and would recommend her to anyone needing a hand and more.
